GREY_active_CDFThe EMES GREY CDF is our entry level model to the EMES Nearfield monitor family. This new generation of 2 way bi-amplified near field Monitor, are specially designed to meet the best performance at a reasonable price point.

We put our 30 years (almost) of experience and knowledge into it - and we made it with no compromise!

That's why we stick entirely to the new Cabinet design "CDF" - Compound Density Fibre - witch is made from a 3 layer material - MDF - Silicon - and CDF - to avoid the "coincidence effect"! A big issue on mono-material housings, and gives us a "green" approach when it comes to recycling the cab after product life. For more details on this see CDF-housing.

Another aspect mostly overseen are the ISO-Rails™ they are part of the cabinet and do have practical aspects as well as acoustical once!
Most available cabinets have flat sheet surfaces, such speakers have hard times to stick on the location they were placed on, especially when they are pushed hard, manually or by the moving force of the Woofer!

No such strange thing happen to the GREYs!

The cabinet is standing on the ISO-Rails™ - a special silicon profile. So there is no coupling to surface underneath nor is any "slip" behaviour going on, benefit - the low end is always tight at any time!

As always at EMES, matched high quality drivers are chosen, because to us they are the most critical part in a quality Studio Monitor System!
The Low range (59 - 2000Hz) is reproduced by a 17cm polypropylene Membrane HDS-driver. A 25mm high efficiency Neodymium Ring Radiator with a large wave guide is used from 1.4k - 20 kHz!
Yes - 1.4kHz - unbelievable low, but that's what we are always aiming at, to keep the woofer in a range where it works constant on a wide dispersion angle - with no phase issues!! Above 1.2kHz all conus drivers do "break up" - irregularity in amplitude and phase.

We at EMES always use identical amplifiers, to have the lowest time related distortion possible! Therefore 2 identical build in 100W rms amplifiers which deliver a powerful and optimized output drive a single GREY Monitor. This is one of the many design criteria to the EMES audio performance.
To adjust the monitor to your personal listening level and room situation, 3 x 16 position dip-switches has been added! This allows to control the Low End and the entire Tweeter Level performance as well as to adjust the listening level in a wide range!

We ship the GREY as all other EMES monitors as matched pairs!
